Osinbajo and Aluko Surface in Diezani’s High‑Profile UK Corruption Trial

In one of the most closely watched international corruption trials involving a former Nigerian official, a UK court has heard prosecution evidence in the ongoing case against Diezani Alison‑Madueke that names former Vice‑President Yemi Osinbajo and Nigerian businessman Kolawole (Kola) Aluko among those appearing in seized communications and documents presented before the judge. 

Prosecutors at Southwark Crown Court in London tendered materials they say include telephone records, audio files, WhatsApp messages and emails that reference Osinbajo and Aluko alongside other prominent figures during the trial of the ex‑Minister of Petroleum Resources. These communications were introduced as part of the evidentiary case in the bribery and conspiracy charges that Alison‑Madueke has denied.

Aluko, a well‑known oil and aviation magnate, is also mentioned in court materials linked to luxury spending allegedly connected to the provision of substantial benefits — including purchases in London luxury stores and the use of high‑end properties — during Alison‑Madueke’s tenure from 2010 to 2015. 

The prosecution stressed that the documents were submitted to support their allegations, but any implications involving Osinbajo or others outside the main defendant remain subject to legal scrutiny and interpretation by the court as the trial continues. 

Alison‑Madueke, who once led the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), has pleaded not guilty to all counts. Her defence has sought to challenge the strength and context of the evidence as proceedings advance.
